Digital Colour Printing
Our core digital colour printing technology is the Indigo
TurboStream which provides "virtual litho" quality
on the industry's leading technology.
For simple "replication" of the same image, digital
colour printing is most cost effective for runs of up to 500
sheets (1,000 product sheets, 3,000 post cards, or larger
volume runs for variable image printing etc.). The on-line
collation and two sided printing allows us to run complete
booklets or binders of multiple pages as fully collated "sets"
right off the press, one sheet after the other, ready for
trimming and finishing.
Variable imaging, from simple addressing to full variable
imaging from database driven content mapping is used for applications
such as:
- Customer Relations Management
- Business to Business
- High Value Business to Consumer (automotive, household
appliances and furniture, insurance and financial products).
Internet fulfillment is a process where demographic
data is collected from web inquiries and site visits and is
manipulated to produce custom product or service literature.
Specific needs and benefits determined by user responses to
prompts and forms are used to provide the mapping of the content.

Direct to Press
Dots & Pixels was one of the first in Canada to order
the Heidelberg Quickmaster "DI" (direct image) presses.
Our business focus has always been on "short run
colour". In some people's books 2,000 or 5,000 copies
is a "short run". In order to be of greater service
to our clients we determined that the addition of the DI technology
would put us in a position to look after our customers requirements
from a single copy to several thousand.
The combination of the DI with our digital colour printing
capabilities is a potent one-two punch. Often, a project may
run with English quantity on the DI and the French on the
digital press for optimum cost effectiveness. Similarly, a
generic version of a corporate brochure or product literature
may be run on the DI and specific targeted versions run on
the digital press.
Our analysis indicates that the DI technology becomes cost
competitive with digital printing at around 400-500 press
sheets.

Large Format Imaging
In 1997 we entered the full colour large format market with
a bang - producing the Guinness Book of Records recognized
"Largest Catalog Ever Produced".
Always keeping on top of technology, in August 2001 we acquired
yet another leading edge technology; "Piezo Ink Jet"
large format printer. This replacement of our original electrostatic
plotter offers superb 360 or 720 dot per inch resolution rendering
smooth, vibrant solids and gradients with incredibly crisp
type.
We now print directly on paper, vinyl, canvas and backlit
material as well as offer full in-house finishing including
- lamination, mounting
- jewel trimming
- and all sorts of custom hand finishing.
With its 2 year UV resistance in outdoors this new technology
is the perfect solution for
- short run posters
- point-of-purchase displays
- in-store signage
- marketing event graphics
- signage, trade show graphics etc.
Our Web-to-Print process is also available for large format
products.
In addition to full colour large format we also offer cut
vinyl in a rainbow of colours for cost effective vinyl banners
and signage.
Phone/Loyalty/Membership Cards
Getting to market quickly is of prime importance in the phone
card market. Lost time to market results in lost time use
hence revenue shrinkage.
At Dots & Pixels, our combination of Direct Image litho
printing for the full colour face of phone cards and Digital
printing for the backs of the cards is a potent solution in
both cost effectiveness and turnaround times.
The imaging and finishing operations in traditional phone
card manufacturing is the most time consuming for conventional
inkjet or thermal imaging methods. On the other hand, we have
the ability to image over 80,000 cards per hour and finishing
capabilities in lamination, scratch-off application and die
cutting in excess of 50,000 cards per hour.
Due to the
high resolution of our printing technologies, the imaging
of pin numbers, serial/control numbers or variable bar codes
is litho quality, not matrix patterned such as with ink jetting.
Additionally, our imaging is beneath the lamination which
provides an additional element of quality and security.
We have the ability to image multiple channels onto a card
to incorporate PIN numbers, serial numbers, mintage etc. in
both human readable as well as bar codes for inventory and
retail UPC encoding.
Our specialty is in laminated paper based cards primarily
in the "credit card" format as well as sundry custom
formats such as hanger cards. We also provide printing of
instruction/promotion sheets and cello-wrap packaging in single
or multiples.

Variable Data Driven Printing -- One-to-One Personalized Printing
The holy grail of marketing communications and customer relationship
management (CRM) is printing to a specific individual audience.
Since the development of digital colour printing technologies,
early adopters report previously unheard of response rates
- often in excess of 30%. The power to fully customize content
from business intelligence collected into a database gives
you the tools to speak directly and specifically to the intended
audience.
Any traditionally printed piece attempts to be "all
singing, all dancing", trying to distill information
into a single document that addresses the interests of every
reader. By the nature of the process, replication of a single
document does not effectively communicate the right benefits
to the right needs of each specific reader.
Through variable data driven printing we are able to provide
litho quality brochures, product sheets, newsletters, statements
etc. that are fully unique and customized to the recipient.

Web-to-Print
Order Your Printing Requirements Direct from the Internet
Our Web-to-Print service is unique to the industry. The web
component is a customizable interface to provide a facade
of the user company with their graphics and user definable
parameters for authorization, etc. The document generator
component is a proprietary software and order management utility
that strictly conforms to any corporate graphics standards.
Ordering documents through these services virtually eliminates
administrative costs for the user. For example, by traditional
methods a simple business card order may take as much as $17.00
in soft administrative costs in over a dozen steps to execute.
The Dots & Pixels solution can be as simple as a single
step.
Because the orders are a product of capturing information
from a simple form on the internet, all of the information
about the order is automatically encapsulated and loaded into
the system. The content of the document is fully user controlled
and hence the entire proofing and copy change cycles are eliminated
allowing the orders to be immediately and automatically processed.
As a result, orders can be turned around in a fraction of
the time a conventional order would take.
Think about how Web-to-Print can be used in your environment:
- Business Cards & Stationery
- Invitations
- Greeting & Thank You Cards for every occasion
- Event marketing collateral
- Signage and Posters
- Newsletters
- Sales & Marketing Collateral
